How many days per week do I need to work out?
ACE recommends 2.5 hours of exercise weekly. I personally recommend a minimum of 2 days a week of 45 minutes doing resistance exercises, plus 5 days a week of activities of at least 20 minutes. (i.e.) Walking, hiking, biking, etc.

What should I eat before a workout?
A piece of fruit/carbohydrate about 30/60 minutes before, but I do not recommend eating a full meal before you workout.

What are the best exercises for getting rid of body fat around the midsection/bat wings/hips?
Unfortunately, there is no evidence that you can spot reduce any particular area of your body. A reduced calorie diet, burning extra calories daily, and weight training at least 2 days a week will reduce overall body fat.

How quickly will I see the results of my training?
Typically you start feeling the changes during the first week, and seeing results may take a couple of weeks. The key is to know where you started and keep track weekly using a body composition scale and waist, thigh, arm measurements.

Why can't I just do cardio?
Cardio is excellent for your heart and lungs but not as effective for your muscles. Your body is a great adapter. It adapts to exercise over weeks of the same workouts. It becomes more efficient at burning fewer calories to do the same amount of work. Therefore it is crucial to do a variety of cardio and weight training exercises each week.

What's the best diet for weight loss?
A diet that you can easily adhere to is most important.
Another important distinction that people miss is the difference between weight loss and fat loss. It's essential to focus on decreasing body fat. Reducing calories is the best way to start a fat loss program. Increasing your daily calories burned and weight training to maintain muscle mass. |
